11:00 a.m. Arrived Suzhou City, Humble Administrator's Garden (about 1 hour)
At almost 52,000 m2 (13 ac), the Humble Administrator's Garden is the largest garden in Suzhou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the finest gardens in southern China. A private residence during the Tang dynasty, proper development of the garden did not begin until the early 1500s when Wang Xi'ancheng, an official dismissed from the imperial court, retired there and spent the next 16 years developing the grounds with artist Wen Zhenming. The design of the garden today looks more like it would have during Qing dynasty times than when it was first built, but it's nevertheless a beautiful place. The garden has three sections set around a large lake, dotted with myrtle trees, lotus ponds and bamboo groves, and crisscrossed by bridges straight out of a classical painting.
11:50 a.m. Suzhou City Rickshaw (about 30 minutes)
Your rickshaw driver will take you from the garden to Baita East Road, where you can drive through some small historical lanes. Local people still lead a simple life there. Your rickshaw ride will end on Pingjiang Cultural Street, where you will find both the most historical and the most fashionable parts of Suzhou.

2:30 p.m. Tongli water town (about 2.5 hours)
Some 18 km (11mi) to the southeast of Suzhou and 80 km (50 mi) west of Shanghai, Tongli is one of the best preserved of Jiangsu Province's old Yangtze River Delta water towns, featuring an assortment of Ming and Qing Dynasty houses situated amidst a network of canals spanned by 49 classic Chinese bridges.
Tuisi Garden is much smaller than the gardens in the city of Suzhou, but you can't judge the charm of a garden by its size. Tuisi Garden, like the top gardens in the city of Suzhou, is listed by UNESCO as a world heritage site. The pools and pavilions in Tuisi Garden are even more charming than the ones in the gardens of Suzhou.
You will take a sculling boat from Tuisi Garden to the Three Bridges Scenic Area. During the boat ride and your visit to the scenic area, you will be immersed in the rich history and culture of Tongli. Local people believe they can obtain good health and fortune by walking across all three bridges. You'll want to see if that's true.
Chongben Hall and the Folk Custom Museum focus on the daily lives of ancient Tongli people. Wood carvings, paintings and interior decorations are the crystallization of Tongli people's wisdom and your day-trip will reach a perfect ending at the museum.
